What is a Nationwide Lockdown?
Lockdown is a temporary interruption of electrical power supply caused by a threat or attack by terrorism, natural disaster, wild fire or a similar condition. Even if there is no obvious reason for the shut down, a nationwide outage is normally instigated due to an unforeseen disaster. The threat or danger that instigates the stoppage may come from an unexpected high pressure weather event, a major earthquake or a cargo vessel collision. A recent study reveals that between oil spills and carbon emissions, global warming is the greatest threat to the world’s power grid over the next half decade.
Global Warming causes ocean temperatures to rise as the ocean takes up more space than usual. This change in ocean currents has a direct effect on the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the Earth’s surface. The lowered demand for electricity and gas translates into lower emissions as well as a decreased demand for power generated from fossil fuels. Since the turn of the century, the steady growth of the utilization of non-renewable energies has been a major factor contributing to climate change. It is projected that by mid-century, drastic climate changes will be seen across the globe, affecting not only the lives of individuals, but also the ecosystems and the very foundation of society.
